Volker Kiehn (*1965, Bonn) is a sculptor and has been working freelance since 1993. His works are made from metal, especially steel and stainless steel, and combine precise workmanship with a surprisingly soft, organic design language.
Kiehn deliberately utilizes the properties of metal: shiny, polished or burnished surfaces, Precise edges and controlled deformations create sculptures and wall objects. which change their effect depending on the light and viewing angle.
A typical feature is the tension between hard material and "soft" appearance – shapes have an effect inflated, folded or pressed, and playing with our perception of weight and volume.
His well-known works include the so-called "Pillows" – objects made of (stainless) steel, which resemble cushions or air bodies and deliberately emphasize the contrast between material and appearance stage.
In addition to his artistic work, Volker Kiehn is involved in the contemporary art scene: He is a co-founder of the art fair KUNST/MITTE in Magdeburg and is one of its most influential figures. Local stakeholders.
