Martina Hamrik – Contemporary Painting & Movement | Galerie Minrath

Martina Hamrik

Born 1967 in Kenzingen near Freiburg

Martina Hamrik works with a distinctive, unmistakable visual language that combines painting, drawing, and movement. At the core of her work is the human in action – power, dynamism, elegance and the tension between stillness and motion.

Movement as pictorial space

Fascinated by sports, dance, theater, and human dynamics, Hamrik attempts to capture the fleeting moment while simultaneously making the movement itself visible.

With her characteristic loop technique, she translates sequences of movement into rhythmic lines and powerful brushstrokes. Figure and space are in constant dialogue – movement defines space, not vice versa.

Painting & Technique

Hamrik primarily works with acrylic on canvas. The lines are energetic, deliberately placed, and often relief-like in their execution.

Figures appear three-dimensional through the layering of loops, lines, and color fields, seemingly moving out of the picture. This creates a special depth effect between drawing, painting, and sculptural presence.

Themes & Artistic Approach

Martina Hamrik finds inspiration wherever movement plays a central role: in sports, on stage, in urban spaces, or with herds of animals in the landscape.

The depicted figures remain individual, even if they are part of a group. They appear isolated yet embedded – a tension that gives the works a strong emotional and contemporary impact.

"Translating rhythms of movement in this way demands a special observational skill and artistry – precisely what makes the uniqueness of Martina Hamrik's work."
– Dr. Barbara Aust-Wegemund, Art Historian (Hamburg)

Collector's Value & Development

Martina Hamrik's works are regularly featured in exhibitions and are held in private collections.

Her clear artistic signature, the consistent further development of the loop technique, and the limited production of works form a stable basis for lasting collector's value.
