Jörg Minrath

Jörg Minrath grew up in a family of artists in Cologne. The exploration of colors, shapes and materials shaped him early on and still forms the basis today his artistic work.

Inspired by the color field painting of Mark Rothko, the abstract visual language of Gerhard Richter as well as the reduced attitude of Günther Uecker and the expressive energy of a Jackson Pollock, He spent extended periods of time in Paris, Bordeaux, and Biarritz. Impressions of the French art scene their influence was formative in his own visual language.

Abstract Painting & Structure

Jörg Minrath is a contemporary abstract artist. known for his mostly square structural images, which are created in different formats and color schemes.

Characteristic features include special materials, unusual surfaces and an expressive, at the same time controlled color scheme. Acrylic paints are layered, thickened, and textured, so that images are created that oscillate between calm and tension.

Miniatures, collage & temporal reference

In addition to large-format works, miniatures are also created. and collages in which Minrath incorporates current trends which takes up and further develops contemporary art.

The style is constantly evolving. and remains open to impulses from travel, international art fairs as well as the digital and analog public space.
